Allowance for backward people

Backward communities are a small part of the population of Bangladesh. According to the survey of Department of Social Services, there are about 13,29,135 backward communities in Bangladesh. Fishermen, monks, sages, Beharas, barbers, washermen, hajams, Nikaris, Patni, Kawras, Telis, Patikars, Bansphors, Domars, Rauts, Telugus, Hela, Haris, Lalbegi, Balmigis, Doms etc. belong to the so-called lower caste communities.

 

In the financial year 2012-2013, through a pilot program, the program for improving the quality of life of the backward and backward communities was started in 7 districts. However, it has started in Chandpur district in the financial year 2015-16. It is being implemented as a separate program from FY 2019-20.

 

Aims and Objectives  :

 

  • Special allowance of 500 taka per person per month for disabled and indigent persons aged 50 years or above.
  • To increase the skills of working and backward communities through vocational training and bring them into the mainstream of society by involving them in income generating activities;
  • Post Training Resettlement Assistance Rs.10,000/-(Ten Thousand)

Service Delivery Procedures  ( In Brief ):

 

Upazila / City Social Service Officer publishes notification subject to receipt of allotment. After that, the interested persons have to apply to the social service officer in the prescribed form. The received application is scrutinized by the union committee on the spot and sent to the upazila committee in the form of a proposal. Then the upazila committee scrutinizes and selects the beneficiaries according to the allocation. Opening Mobile Financial Service 'Cash' / Bank Asia Agent banking account in the name of the selected person and transferring the allowance or stipend money from the central account to G2P system as a beneficiary through EFT and disbursement of allowance is completed after notifying the selected person.

 

Trade based training is provided to working persons above 18 years of age. The trainees are provided with non-refundable financial assistance after the training.

 

Time required for receiving service :

 

1 Within 03 months of application subject to receipt of new allocation ;

 

2.  In case of old or regular 07 working days
