Eunuch allowance

Although the Hijra community is a small part of the total population of Bangladesh, this community has been known as a neglected and backward group since recent times. The government has taken this program with the aim of ensuring the family, socioeconomic, educational system, accommodation, health development and social security of these people who are victims of discriminatory behavior in the society, bringing them into the mainstream of the society and involving them in the overall development of the country. According to the survey of the Department of Social Services, the number of transgenders in Bangladesh is about 10 thousand. 75 Hijras have been identified in Chandpur district so far. Identification is in progress.

 

This program started as a pilot program in 7 districts of the country from 2012-2013 financial year. This program has been launched in Chandpur district in the financial year 2013-14.

 

Aims and Objectives :

  • 600 per person monthly special allowance for disabled and indigent hijras aged 50 years and above;
  • Increase the skills of the working Hijra population through vocational training and bring them into the mainstream of society by involving them in income-generating activities;
  • 10,000/-(ten thousand) financial assistance after training.

Service Delivery Procedures  ( In Brief ):

 

Subject to receipt of allotment, the upazila/city social service officer publishes the circular, after which the interested persons have to apply to the social service officer in the prescribed form. The received application is scrutinized by the union committee on the spot and sent to the upazila committee in the form of a proposal. Then the upazila committee scrutinizes and selects the beneficiaries according to the allocation. By opening a bank account in the name of the selected person and transferring the allowance money from the central account, the distribution of allowance is completed after notifying the selected person.

 

Trade based training is provided to working persons above 18 years of age. The trainees are provided with non-refundable financial assistance after the training

 

Time required for receiving service :

 

Within 03 months of application subject to receipt of new allocation ;

 

In case of old or regular 07 working days

In Chandpur district, 50 people in financial year 2016-17, 50 people in financial year 2018-19 and 50 people in financial year 2019-20 have been brought under vocational training and rehabilitation program in sewing, hair cutting, beautification, computer trade.
