Patient Welfare Association

Every hospital has a voluntary organization called Pathika Kalyan Samiti registered under the law to strengthen hospital social service activities to involve government initiatives as well as private initiatives. This organization is registered under the 'Voluntary Social Welfare Institutions (Registration and Regulation) Ordinance' No. 46 of 1961. The organization consists of government officials, civil society representatives, eminent social workers, philanthropists and private individuals. Registered Societies mainly provide overall support to hospital social service activities including providing financial assistance to patients, raising funds for patient welfare associations and advising on improving service quality. As per the instructions of the present government, with the aim of expanding the medical social service activities for the medical assistance of the rural poor people, except Sadar upazila of Chandpur district, in Haimchar/ Kachua/ Hajiganj/ Shahrasti/ Faridganj/ Matlab North/ Matlab Dakshin upazilas, the work of formation and registration of patient welfare societies has been completed in Upazila Health Complex, which directly serves the afflicted. involved


ideals and objectives

1. Providing necessary assistance regarding admission and treatment of poor and indigent patients coming to Upazila Health Complex;

2. Provision of life-saving medicines (not supplied by the hospital), blood, clothing, spectacles, prostheses, and travel expenses of hospitalized distressed patients and arranging for various tests;

3. Encouraging the public to donate blood free of cost or through exchange for needy patients;

4. Collection of membership fees, subscriptions, donations, grants and zakat and material support such as clothing, medicine, medical aids, artificial limbs, beds etc. for the formation and expenditure of the association's funds;

5. To arrange the necessary medical treatment for the admission of helpless children abandoned in the hospital, Chotmani Nivas, government children's families;

6. Taking all necessary initiatives for the rehabilitation of destitute patients including women;

7. Hospitalization, operation of library for the entertainment of patients and possible other measures;

8. Arranging transfer of patients receiving treatment from one hospital to another in case of necessity;

9. Documenting necessary information including names and addresses of assisted patients;

10. Post-treatment follow-up of patients as per address and take necessary action;

11. Taking initiatives to address socio-economic problems faced by poor patients due to absenteeism from their homes and workplaces;

12. Providing psychological relief to patients (especially those with complex diseases such as surgery and cancer) by providing encouragement and comfort and providing emotional support to them by home visits or personal contact with relatives;

13. Inquiring by the members of the association by visiting the hospital from time to time;

14. Dispensing milk and setting up entertainment for outpatients;

15. Establishment of Arogya Niketans and Vocational Training Centers for post-treatment recovery period for the welfare of distressed patients;

16. Establishment of home or patient residence for temporary shelter of (distant) patients (future planning).

17. Liaising with concerned patient community for rehabilitation of indigent and chronic (chronic) patients.

18. Co-operation with other welfare organizations and organizations and receiving membership and other assistance from the same.

19. Providing financial assistance for transport of bodies of deceased distressed patients.


How to get what service:


Summary of service receipt

Patients or guardians of patients (recommended by assistant registrar/consultant/RMO/doctor of the concerned ward) admitted in free beds in Haimchar/ Kachua/ Hajiganj/ Matlab North/ Matlab Dakshin Upazila Health Complex, Chandpur in the prescribed form with Social Service Officer Application has to be submitted. Haimchar/ Kachua/ Hajiganj/ Shahrasti/ Faridganj/ Matlab North/ Matlab Dakshin Upazila Social Service Officer provides financial/medical/food/clothing/rehabilitation/disease check-up/ancillary services subject to approval of the application after scrutiny.

            So far, apart from Sadar in Chandpur district, poor, helpless and distressed patients coming to other 07 Upazila Health Complex Hospitals have benefited by providing medicine, blood, clothes, crutches, wheelchairs, artificial organs through Patient Welfare Association and the number of patients who have benefited financially, socially and otherwise is about 1607, Kachua; 919, Shahrasti: 391, Haimchar: 531, Faridganj 907, Matlab North: 1179, Hajiganj: 648
