Education stipend of Vedic people

The Bede community is a small part of the population of Bangladesh. According to the survey of Department of Social Services, there are about 13,29,135 backward communities and 75,702 Vedic communities in Bangladesh. The nomadic community is known as the Vedic community. 99 percent of the Bede population are Muslims and 90 percent are illiterate. Among the Bede communities divided into 8 tribes are Malbede, Sapuria, Bajikar, Sandar, Tola, Mirshikari, Burial Sanda and Gain Bede etc. Their main occupations are petty trading, selling amulets and charms, treating snake bites, catching snakes, showing snake plays, selling snakes, spiritual health services, planting horns, selling herbal medicines, performing poetry, monkey plays, magic shows etc.

 

In the financial year 2012-2013, through a pilot program, the program for improving the quality of life of the backward and backward communities was started in 7 districts. But it started in Chandpur district in 2015-16 financial year. It is being implemented as a separate program from FY 2019-20.

 

Aims and Objectives  :

 

  • Providing stipends at 4 levels (primary 700, secondary 800, higher secondary 1000 and higher 1200 taka per month) with the aim of educating and developing school-going and backward students;

Service Delivery Procedures  ( In Brief ):

 

Upazila / City Social Service Officer publishes notification subject to receipt of allotment. Then interested persons have to apply online ( //mis.bhata.gov.bd/onlineApplication /) with Social Service Officer. The received application is scrutinized by the union committee on the spot and sent to the upazila committee in the form of a proposal. Then the upazila committee scrutinizes and selects the beneficiaries according to the allocation. Mobile Banking 'Cash'/ Bank Asia Agent Banking account should be opened on the mobile number of the selected person / selected person's guardian. In the GTUP system, the allowance or stipend is transferred to the said mobile/agent bank through EFT and the distribution of the allowance or stipend is completed after notifying the selected person.

 

Trade based training is provided to working persons above 18 years of age. The trainees are provided with non-refundable financial assistance after the training.

 

Time required for receiving service :

 

Within 03 months of application subject to receipt of new allocation ;

 

In case of old or regular 07 working days
