Disability Identification Survey Program

Disability is a part of biodiversity. Not all disabilities are visible. In some cases, the disability is not permanent. Rather temporary disability is seen in different cases. Bangladesh is thought to have a significant number of persons with disabilities. According to various studies, most of the people with disabilities are victims of poverty and low income. It is time to take effective initiatives to alleviate the poverty and improve the living standards of the people with disabilities. To undertake targeted activities to provide appropriate treatment, education and training to those in need of poverty alleviation and improvement of living standards. To this end identify disability types,A nationwide 'Disability Identification Survey Program' was undertaken to determine the level and to determine the exact number of persons with disabilities. The pilot-based survey was launched in May 2012 with the aim of streamlining the system's effectiveness before it spread across the country. Gopalganj District and Jamalpur Sadar, Baruda (Comilla), Paba (Rajshahi), Morelganj (Bagerhat), Barisal Sadar, on pilot basis in the financial year 2011-2012.Chunarughat (Habiganj) and Fulbari (Dinajpur) upazilas surveyed a total of 12 upazilas and two UCDs. In the 2012-13 financial year, the initiative was taken to conduct house-to-house survey in the rest of the country except the upazila where the survey was conducted on a pilot basis. The field level data collection started from 1st June 2013 and the initial data collection was completed on 14th November 2013. Only persons with disabilities who are covered by the survey by the doctors nominated by the Department of Health and Consultants of Disability Services and Help Centers under National Disability Development Foundation in FY 2013-14. The calculation work begins.

  • Guidelines for Completing Interview Schedule (Form): People with disabilities who are not yet covered by the Disability Identification Survey are requested to download and complete the following interview schedule and submit it to the nearest social service office.
    • In the current 2021-22 financial year, the work of enrolling and identifying the persons with disabilities is underway.

      A database is being set up to ensure the overall development of persons with disabilities in the light of proper preservation and preservation of information on persons with disabilities identified by doctors. With the financial support of UNICEF Bangladesh, information on persons with disabilities will be included in the database through webbased software.

      Objectives of the Disability Identification Survey Program:

      1. 1. Determining the number of families / persons with disabilities in Bangladesh;
      2. 2. Identification of visible and invisible disabilities in the country;
      3. 3. Issuance of registration and identity card to persons with disabilities;
      4. 4. Prepare a data base with information including pictures of persons with disabilities and make all the relevant information useful for the use of all administrative ministries;
      5. 5. Properly target people with disabilities in various government programs / projects and facilitate targeting strategies; And
      6. . To ensure the welfare of the disabled people in accordance with the national policy on disability.
