Disability is a part of biodiversity. Not all disabilities are visible. In some cases, the disability is not permanent. Rather temporary disability is seen in different cases. Bangladesh is thought to have a significant number of persons with disabilities. According to various studies, most of the people with disabilities are victims of poverty and low income. It is time to take effective initiatives to alleviate the poverty and improve the living standards of the people with disabilities. To undertake targeted activities to provide appropriate treatment, education and training to those in need of poverty alleviation and improvement of living standards. To this end identify disability types,A nationwide 'Disability Identification Survey Program' was undertaken to determine the level and to determine the exact number of persons with disabilities. The pilot-based survey was launched in May 2012 with the aim of streamlining the system's effectiveness before it spread across the country. Gopalganj District and Jamalpur Sadar, Baruda (Comilla), Paba (Rajshahi), Morelganj (Bagerhat), Barisal Sadar, on pilot basis in the financial year 2011-2012.Chunarughat (Habiganj) and Fulbari (Dinajpur) upazilas surveyed a total of 12 upazilas and two UCDs. In the 2012-13 financial year, the initiative was taken to conduct house-to-house survey in the rest of the country except the upazila where the survey was conducted on a pilot basis. The field level data collection started from 1st June 2013 and the initial data collection was completed on 14th November 2013. Only persons with disabilities who are covered by the survey by the doctors nominated by the Department of Health and Consultants of Disability Services and Help Centers under National Disability Development Foundation in FY 2013-14. The calculation work begins.
In the current 2021-22 financial year, the work of enrolling and identifying the persons with disabilities is underway.
